  • The approval of a settlement agreement in respect of a dispute between a well-known artist represented by a litigation friend and his former gallery.
  • A cross-border dispute as to the validity of sale of a valuable painting by an English gallery.
• Aviation

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience of a claim for the return of a deposit upon the failure of negotiations for the sale of several aircraft.

• Banking and Financial Services

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience in:

  • A substantial multi-jurisdictional financial services case in the BVI.
  • A claim against the guarantors of a syndicated loan in the DIFC.
• Civil Fraud, Asset Tracing & Recovery

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience in:

  • An appeal regarding the effect of a default judgment in a fraud claim against a third party.
  • An application for a freezing injunction.
  • A claim by beneficiaries against former trustees in Jersey for breach of trust.

  Prior to commencing pupillage, Jessica was involved in a substantial committal hearing arising out of a failure to comply with a disclosure order in a tracing claim (Kea Investments Ltd v Watson [2020] EWHC 2599 (Ch)).

• Commercial Litigation

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience of a range of commercial disputes across a variety of sectors, including:

  • A dispute between a luxury car brand and its franchisee in the MENA region.
  • An application for a mandatory injunction arising out of a share transfer agreement between two healthcare providers.
• Company

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience of a broad range of company law matters, including:

  • A claim against former directors of a company for breach of duty.
  • Advice on a share buy-back agreement.
• Energy, Oil & Gas

  During pupillage, Jessica was involved in a four-day trial (with Edward Cumming QC) of a claim for breach of contract and unjust enrichment in the oil and gas industry.

  She also assisted Matthew Watson with preparation for a jurisdiction challenge to a claim in respect of oil and gas contracts in Liberia.

• Insolvency

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience in a number of both corporate and personal insolvency matters, including:

  • An application to set aside a statutory demand for a multi-million dollar debt (with Steven Thompson QC).
  • An application to remove joint liquidators.
• International & Offshore

  During pupillage, Jessica was involved in:

  • A dispute concerning the enforcement of a multi-million dollar loan in the DIFC, including a jurisdiction challenge.
  • The enforcement in Gibraltar of a default judgment obtained in California bankruptcy proceedings.
• Trusts, Probate & Estates

  During pupillage, Jessica gained experience of:

  • Applications regarding the construction of trust deeds, including (with Adam Cloherty) a hearing relating to the application of the Human Rights Act 1998 to the construction of a trust instrument.
  • Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
  • An application for the removal of an executor.
