Lyndsey de Mestre appointed first female Deputy Chancellor for the diocese of St Albans

April 20, 2015

XXIV Old Buildings is delighted to announce that Lyndsey de Mestre has been appointed Deputy Chancellor for the diocese of St Albans. As Deputy Chancellor, Lyndsey will deal with applications for faculty permissions relating to church buildings. Every diocese in the Church of England has an ecclesiastical court, known as the Consistory Court. The Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor are independent judges of the Consistory Court, deriving their authority not from the Bishop but from law. Much of the work undertaken by the Consistory Court deals with developments carried out on land such as consecrated churches and churchyards.

Lyndsey is able to accept instructions to represent applicants and objectors at consistory courts outside of the Diocese of St Albans.
