The Competition Appeal Tribunal has certified collective proceedings brought by Professor Barry Rodger on behalf of UK app developers against Google in relation to Google’s Play Store. Professor Rodger’s case is that Google has adopted a range of exclusionary practices to eliminate competition in app distribution and has then exploited its dominant position by charging excessive and unfair prices.
Google is also simultaneously defending collective actions brought by Ms Elizabeth Coll (on behalf of consumers) and Epic Games.
Bethanie Chambers, with Robert O’Donoghue KC (Brick Court), Kieron Beal KC (Blackstone) and Daniel Carall-Green (Fountain Court), act for Professor Rodger. She is instructed by Geradin Partners.
